RE: Sky Tracker

Just received an email from the "Sky Tracker" folks. It looks like the credit crunch has deep sixed there financing and are looking for someone with deep pockets to finance there first order. I was impressed with the unit and was looking forward to seeing the final unit in production. Anyone else familiar with the unit and did you get an email as well?? I do hope someone will rescue the project. Ok.......... I'll bite. What is Sky Tracker??

RE: filling up with water

Have the Mod move your thread to the Toyhauler section, you will get better / more responses. Some people don't understand that on a toyhauler you have 100+ gallons of water which adds almost another 1,000 lbs. Its not about savings in fuel with filling up with water, its about weight and braking.

RE: Oil for04 Chev D/M

07.5 and newer are the only Duramax trucks that require the CJ4 low ash oil. My dealer wanted $130 for my first change then lowered it down to around $80. See this post

RE: Low ash oil

There's nothing "expensive" or "special" about CJ class oil. It is the new standard. As soon as the emissions hit the streets for the 08 model diesel engines, the oil was already on the shelves. All of the oil companies are complying with the new spec. If there was nothing special about the CJ4 low ash oil then I wouldn't "have to" use it. If there was nothing expensive about the CJ4 low ash oil then oil changes wouldn't cost nearly "twice as much". Its great that you are sticking with the CI "stuff" but, some of us can't!

RE: Low ash oil

Here is a cut and paste email that I received from a dealer about the use of Cj4 oil (low ash). It lists all of the Duramax / Isuzu model and years that require the use of this "expensive oil". I paid a lot for the first change and they later started doing my oil changes for around $80 for the "low ash" stuff. To answer your question......... NO EXPENSIVE CJ4 OIL NEEDED FOR THAT LLY! A very misinformed service writer......(whats new) If you and I know this stuff or can come on line and learn this stuff??? Why can't they? Apologize for the long strung out cut and paste. If you want the email PM me with your email address and I will send it to you. As it was a cut and paste from the web into the body of an email. This oil has an API service rating of CJ-4 and Low Ash intended for Diesel Particulate Filtration (DPF) systems. For these vehicles equipped with DPF systems, Isuzu recommends engine oil that supports DPF (Low Ash Oil) and API service rating of CJ-4 be used when performing scheduled maintenance or repairs. Refer to the Owner Manual for oil viscosity recommendations. Notice: If you do not use this recommended oil in Duramax and Isuzu vehicles fitted with DPF, both the engine and the DPF may break down and fuel economy may decrease. Therefore, be sure to use the recommended oil type.

RE: Engine temps

Bob I wonder if you were in tow mode? first for me to hear of an 08 with any fan action. chevman I traveled from Oregon to Wisconsin with truck and trailer in sig and experienced about the same results as you with several extra lbs in tow. Sometimes temps were in the mid 90s and no problems. Tranny temp would tend to climb to around 214 to 220 if memory serves me correct. I got plenty of "fan action" on that trip with my 08!

RE: Dually vs. Single Rear Wheel

Up2nogood, your argument about Chevy DRW against the Ford 1 ton makes sense except for your application. You own a 1999 1 ton Ford which has a 9900 GVW I believe like a Chevy 3500 SRW. Only thing is that your Ford is a lot heavier than the Chevy. If your back wheels are 5600# and your front wheels probably 4500 or heavier you are over your GVW. I owned a 2001 F-250 and it had the 8800# GVW. What a joke for carrying ability. The GVWs for the 250 and 350 are way to light for those years. If you are towing a 3400 Montana with your 350 then you are definately over your pin weight. I can have this debate as long as you want it .You weight police can read the door tags all you want. I am willing to listen to reason, not door tags.If that is all you have then no need to reply to me. Save it for the guys that come on here and ask can I tow this with this, thats where you guys are in your element, guoting door tags. I have always thought these types of discussions are pointless. I'm towing with the truck and trailer in sig and have no "control issues" that others mention. It cracks me up to see someone post about how over your weights when they have no idea how heavy the poster really is.

RE: Condos with RV garages

The RV garage door is 12 wide x 14 high...should accommodate any RV. OK< I read that as 12 ft high. It was recommended to me to put in a door wider than 12 ft. though. and originally I fussed about the lack of turning space in front of the garage until I discovered that that picture was of the car garage. bumpy A door wider than 12' would be overkill. Unless of course you used "the force" to back your rig in.

RE: A NEW DECK?

All rental RVs have walk-on roof/deck combos. :B All rentals have them??? I haven't researched that but I sort of doubt it. bumpy It was a joke................ How many times have you been to an event and see people standing on top of an RV? 9 times out of 10 its always a rental. In other words...not theirs and they don't care.

There are places that will do the shrink wrap too. You have probably seen boats on the highway coming from the factory done this way.

RE: 2006 Raptor 3712

Hey Folks, Ive gotta friend who just bought a 2006 Raptor 3712. The thing appears to be in mint condition. Found it for 32k. Good deal? Also, how have you folks who have one liked it so far? Anyone tow anything behind it? Think it could pull a 5k boat behind it? He also just bought a brand new 2009 F350, 6.4 to pull it with... It sure looks like a fun toy hauler! Thanks! Walt I've been happy with the 2008 3712TS I bought less than a year ago, I've been thinking about selling it. Anyways it has been a great rig with little to no issues other than the minor stuff. Below is a link in the Toyhauler section about adding a hitch to the rear and douoble towing a boat. (picutres included) http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/21543045.cfm

RE: How slow is unsafe?

To Kejsj30, I don't believe we have met. I don't tailgate because I drive a large rig too. And unless we are both running for president, I hope we don't have a reason to get upset. I have to agree with the last poster mousefart that maybe this thread has beat it's self to death. I hope to see kejsj30 at a campgroud someday and we can become friends. Gene Geneo, I would be pleased to camp next to you.

AAAAhhh memories! Brings back the days of stopping by the Ford dealership on a weekly basis only to be told, "Customer concern could not be duplicated" or....... "That is a perfectly normal part of diesel ownership" Man do I miss that truck! NOT!:B

Adapter 15amp/30amp to 50 amp

The whole 50 amp discussions seem to take a wierd twist on here but, can someone tell me wether or not this would really work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Accessories_RV-Trailer-Camper-Parts-Accessories__Adapter-NIB-50-AMP-MADE-FOR-RV-RUN-IT-ALL-ONCE_W0QQitemZ270281798087QQddnZPartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadnZRVQ2cQ20TrailerQ20Q26Q20CamperQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQddiZ2811QQadiZ2876QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270281798087&_trkparms=72%3A543%7C39%3A1%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

RE: Is this an ok deal???

My Nephew made a deal today on a 2009 Vortex 28ft bumper pull. It appears to be fully loaded with a 4k onan, 1100 watt stereo system, pump station w/33 gal tank and so on,It is the wide body, It also has fiberglass sides. He paid 33,012 for it and then an extra $1,300 for an 6 year extended warranty with 0 deductible. He has 3 days to back out if he has remorse for any reason. Thanks in advance for your response on if this is an OK deal or not. When he pushed on the celing, it moved about 1/2 inch flex, is this normal?? RToyz, I looked at Desert Fox trailers down in Medford (grew up there) back in 2006 and they were around 26K to 28K for a 28 foot bumper pull. I ended up getting a Gearbox 335FS (33.5 Fifthwheel, OAL 35 feet) Toyhauler for around $32,000. I know things have changed since late 2006 but, so has the economy not to mention the RV economy. It honestly sounds a little steep to me. I'm not that familiar with that line only that I looked at Vortex a couple years ago and thought the build was of lower quality when shopping around.
